Kenny Chesney Kicks Off Second Leg, Blows Out Voice
20,244 People Rock Dallas Pre-Sold-Out Crowd See Once In A Lifetime Show
As Country Superstar Is Forced To Cancel His 6/6 Wichita Falls Concert
Dallas, Texas: When Kenny Chesney took the stage at Dallas, Texas Smirnoff
Music Center, he was struggling with acute laryngitis. But as Dallas has always
had a special place in the 15-million-selling country superstars heart, he
was determined to take the stage “ and play the show. And what a show it was
as the second night of the second leg of Chesneys Guitars, Tiki Bars & A
Whole Lot of Love Tour concluded with a 6-song encore, featuring tour mate Unkle
Kracker, of "When The Sun Goes Down", a medley of "Midnight Rider" and the
Kid Rock anthem "Cowboy", which Kracker co-wrote, "Drift Away", "Follow
Me", John Mellencamps "Jack & Diane" and Chesneys breakout "She Thinks My
Tractors Sexy".
Those people are so special to me, because very early on Texas was
one of
the places that really made us feel special, Chesney says of the decision to
sing with his throat already in pretty rough shape. This show had sold out
two-and-a-half months in advance I was so psyched to be getting back down to
Dallas and I wasn't gonna NOT play. One thing I know about the fans in Texas,
they're hardcore “ and I had no intention of letting ˜em down, because they
NEVER let us down.
So, I took that stage and as the Beatles say, ˜I got by with a
little help
from my friends! Not only was their energy incredible, there were times when
they picked up the songs and carried them for me. Literally. Which was just
magic in a way. When I thought I wasn't gonna get through it, they brought
their best and it got me going again".
Unfortunately, the inspiration pushed Chesney to the brink and
beyond. By
the time, the dust had settled and tourmates Rascal Flatts, special guest
guitarist Peyton Manning and Kracker cleared the stage, it was obvious he'd
sustained enough wear and tear that performing the next night would be
impossible.
"This kind of thing never happens to me and I really thought I was
gonna be
okay. You get on that stage and you feel invincible, and you feed on the
crowds energy and the next thing you know, you're waist deep. You have this
rush from the fans, and you maybe don't feel the pain, so you just keep going
and then all of a sudden, you're really hurt. As much as I hate to cancel,
I'd rather lose one date then create something that's going to haunt me for the
first part of this tour which what you can run into if you don't respect
your physical limits".
At this point, given how tightly scheduled the Guitars, Tiki Bars &
A Whole
Lot of Love Tour is, no word on whether or not his Wichita Falls, Texas show
will be rescheduled, though tour promoter Louis Messina is doubtful. With four
months of dates to go, caution is being exercised and management is
optimistic that Wednesday, June 9 in Phoenix will go on as scheduled. Details as
available.
