Kenny Takes Country Weekly On The Road
5/25 Cover Story Goes Behind The Scenes, Up Close & Personal
for Guitars, Tiki Bars & A Whole Lot Of Love
Little Rock, Arkansas: With the merchandise truck in flames, it had
been
a fiery finale for Country Weekly's Behind The Scenes exclusive on Kenny
Chesney's Guitars, Tiki Bars & A Whole Lot of Love Tour -- reported by no less
than, well, Kenny Chesney! With two Flameworthies - for Hottest Video for "No
Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems" and Best Male for the 7 week #1 "There Goes My
Life" -- under his belt and Academy of Country Music Awards nominations for
Entertainer, Male and Song of the Year for "There Goes My Life," the 7 week #1
from
his already double platinum When The Sun Goes Down, the
singer/songwriter/sometime guitarist and video director adds journalist to his
list of skills and
accomplishments -- as he pens their May 25 cover story, which hits stands May
11th.
"I love Wendy Newcomer -- and she's done some great stuff with us,
but
for something this personal, my great love which is this tour, I thought the
fans might like it more if I wrote to them directly," says the reigning Academy
of Country Music Top Male Vocalist and Single of the Year winner. "There are
things that you'd never say in a conversation -- about the way certain things
make you feel, little details that seem too trivial when you're talking, but
totally make the point -- that make sense when you're writing. And for all the
work we've put into getting this show together, truth is -- I'm pretty proud of
it, and I wanted to tell the fans about it myself."
And so Kenny Chesney -- the pride of Luttrell, Tennessee -- kept a
journal for two weekends, reflecting what was going on out there. Then he also
compiled a fairly detailed, but universal timeline of what a day in the life of
country music's serious good time loving good ole boy is like. In addition to
his
reflections about life on the road, he was also joined by close friend and
photo-chronicler Glen Rose for a no-holds barred documentary style shoot.
"Glen (Rose) and (video director) Sean (Silva) have been around my
guys
so much, they're like one of us," says Chesney of the photographer. "So it's
not like having someone 'out here…,' because we don't even notice those guys or
their cameras. If you wanna see what this tour looks like, the way you can't
see it even with a backstage pass, looking through either of their lenses is
the way to do it. There's a rhythm and a life that you'll never quite get to
from the outside; so for anyone who's bought a ticket, this is Guitars, Tiki
Bars
from the inside out."
Having sold out Atlanta's 20,000+ Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater in 5
minutes,
set venue records across the Midwest and Southeast for both total tickets and
how fast they sell and busted George Strait's Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo,
to say Kenny Chesney's the hottest ticket in country music would be putting it
mildly. But it's not about the landspeed records or lei-to-lei hysteria --
for Chesney & crew, it's about having a good time.
"If there's one thing I want the fans to know -- it's how much fun
we're
having out there," says the man with the 5 week #1. "It's a blast, and the
more they give us, the more we wanna give back. Without the fans, this wouldn't
be half what it is -- so this is a great way for them to get what we all do
while we're waiting to get to'em."
