Two Weekends Into Guitars, Tiki Bars, Chesney Heads West for 3/30 Show
Nashville, TN: With "A&E's Live By Request" and Regal Cinema's
"Kenny
Goes To The Movies: One Night Only" concert simulcast/"Roadcase: The Movie"
premiere behind him, the hardest working man in show business returns to
rehearsals
for his upcoming Guitars, Tiki Bars & A Whole Lotta Love Tour, which kicks
off March 17 in Houston. Though his mind's on the road, the embodiment of
Every(young)man from Luttrell, Tennessee is still looking for ways to shoe horn
opportunities into his already crammed schedule.
And he's managed to find one for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"
--
March 30.
"It's a funny thing when it all starts happening," laughs the man
whose
When The Sun Goes Down debuted at #1 on Billboard's all-genre Top 200 Album
Chart with close to 600,000 sold the first week. "You spend your whole life
dreaming about all the things you're gonna do… then you find out the most
humbling
thing of all: time is finite. You can't stretch it or create more of it, so
you have to respect you can only put so many things into so much time.
"We've been lucky with all the opportunities we've had this year,
but it
means some things have had to wait. But, the thing about the things that
matter and the people who get it, they DO understand. And for me, it's been
about
getting our focus back on the show, back on the road and back on this tour…
because for us, this year's tour is paying off an awful lot of people's faith --
those fans who've been partying with us for the last several years. All those
folks coming to clubs and small halls, bringing their friends back and feeding
the fire! So that's where we're been putting the focus since the promo tour
finished up."
Look for a more streamlined stage this year, which opens Chesney's
show
up to be even more physical and high energy. And also look for a bunch of When
The Sun Goes Down's good time songs to be part of what should be Chesney's
most carefree shows to date.
The buzz on the reigning Academy of Country Music Top Male Vocalist
and
Single of the Year winner remains high. Rolling Stone writes, "Nashville's own
Jimmy Buffett gets a little deep. But he doesn't fret over the tradition. He's
too real for that," while The Boston Globe weighs in with the assertion
Kenny's "dealing with tougher realities than he ever has" and The Los Angeles
Times
offers that Chesney "sticks to a heart-on-the-sleeve directness that makes
his a characteristically American voice."
Certified double platinum in just 30 days -- or as RLG Nashville
Chairman
Joe Galante said at the presentation, "What took us a year to do last time
only took us 30 days to do this time" -- When The Sun Goes Down has already
produced at 7 week #1 with the twinge-inducing "There Goes My Life" and the
Unkle
Kracker party celebration that is the title track sits at #5 in R&R and #9 in
Billboard
just 5 weeks after add date. Currently gracing the cover of Country Music Today,
with a particularly probing interview with Kay West, Chesney can also be found
on the
March 21 cover of USA Weekend and everywhere across the country as Guitars, Tiki
Bars
& A Whole Lotta Love rolls out of Houston, Texas on March 17 with last year's
tourmate
keith urban and newcomer Dierks Bentley riding shotgun.
