Kenny Meets Charlie -- & Cancels Tonight's Virginia Beach Verizon Amphitheatre
Re-Scheduled for Sunday Aug 15
Virginia Beach, VA: With Hurricane Charlie tearing up the Eastern
seaboard, Kenny Chesney made what was both a difficult and an easy decision,
canceling his concert at the resort town's Verizon Amphitheatre. With 50
mile-an-hour winds expected to hit shore around 9 p.m. EDST this evening, the
Guitars, Tiki Bars & Whole Lot of Love Tour -- with Rascal Flatts and Unkle
Kracker -- will tear down a little bit of today's already set production
elements to re-set the stage for the full-tilt show tomorrow, Sunday Aug 15.
"We're here, and we're ready," says Chesney, "and there's nothing
worse than NOT getting the show onŠ because of the momentum we've built up all
weekend. But nothing is more important to me than knowing our fans are gonna be
safe. To me, there's not reason to take a chance -- or risk it. Thank heavens
this was the last show of the run, so we can stay over -- and still see
everybody in Virginia Beach now."
Tickets for tonight's show will be honored tomorrow. All seats
remain the same, as will the start times. Nothing changes, except a whole lot of
rain, even more wind and hopefully a clear sky for tomorrow night's concert.
"I'm always disappointed when something like this happens," says the Luttrell,
Tennessean. "But I know how crazy the Virginia Beach fans are, so I know they're
gonna more than make up for the waiting, and that's always a good thing."
Having followed Prince and Britney Spears as Pollstar's #3
ticket-seller overall this year, Chesney's been connecting with his fans in a
big way out on the road. As an artist who cherishes his relationship with the
fans, it's all about getting out there and doing it live -- and tomorrow night
in Virginia Beach, Chesney will certainly do just that.
With two Billboard #1 all-genre Top 200 Albums debuts with the
quadruple platinum No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems and the nearly triple
platinum When The Sun Goes Down -- which spawned the 8 week #1 "There Goes My
Life" and the 6 week chart-topping title track -- Kenny Chesney is big country.
As the summer winds down, it looks like things are still plenty hot, though, for
the 2004 CMT: Country Music Television fan-voted Flameworthy Hottest and Male
Video of the Year winner.
